The CareHub is a smart care call and monitoring system developed by CLB that combines proprietary hardware and software. CLB is collaborating with Metric Injection Molding Solutions on the production of the plastic housing, while the industrial design was created by Scope Design & Strategy.
The housing not only protects the electronics, but also plays an active role in the device's acoustic performance.
A distinctive feature is the “deadfont”: a front film with a subtle, uniform appearance, where functions, buttons, and status indicators only become visible when activated. This requires precise integration of the film, housing, electronics, and control concept.
The CareHub can be mounted on a wall or used as a desktop unit in hospitals, healthcare facilities, and home settings. This places specific demands on the materials used. In addition to good injection-molding properties, durability, UV resistance, and impact resistance are important characteristics. The housing must be able to withstand intensive and long-term use in a variety of environments.
The acoustic monitoring function also has direct implications for the design. To ensure the best possible sound quality, the enclosure must be sufficiently open. This has been addressed with a floating lid, which creates the necessary open structure without compromising the protective function of the enclosure. The lid is also part of the user interface. By designing it with a light hinge mechanism, the entire cover can function as a push button. This makes operation simple and accessible to a wide range of users.
This is how injection molding, material selection, acoustics, and functionality come together in a single custom enclosure.
