Limiting the inrush current is critical to prevent unwanted tripping of the fuse circuit breakers when a lighting circuit with multiple LED drivers is turned on. At that point, the capacitors in the LED drivers are charged simultaneously, which can result in short-term current spikes that are higher than during normal operation. This problem is usually solved by using soft-start circuits, which limit the inrush current and avoid current spikes.
One off-the-shelf solution for this is Block's ESG6. This will limit the current to 16A when the drivers are switched on. In addition, the ESG6 is equipped with variable time limitation and integrated temperature protection. The ESG6 sits in a DIN rail making it easy to mount in the meter box. Plug and table models are also available.
