Panasonic has an integrable solar cell based on amorphous silicon with the Amorton. This makes custom PV applications possible: the solar cells can be produced in any desired shape without difficulty. The amorphous silicon cells can be applied to various substrates, usually glass and plastic film.
The Amorton family is characterized by its sensitivity to mainly visible light, even at extremely low light intensities as low as 50 Lux. This also explains that the area of application is primarily indoors. Wearables require indoor and outdoor use, whereby a hybrid variant is optimal and also generates energy at higher light intensities.
There are three basic technologies:
- indoor glass substrate 1.1mm thick and 0.63V per cell
- hybrid (indoor + outdoor) glass substrate 1.1mm thick and 0.89V per cell
- outdoor film substrate 0.3mm and 0.82V per cell
The individual cells are serialized during the production process. This is determined depending on the application and optimized to, for example, the voltage of the supercap or Lithium battery.
The Panasonic Amorton solar cells are excellent for powering portable electronics, wireless sensors, IOT devices or as an extension of the lifetime of battery-powered devices.
