Turning a motor on or off is somewhat tricky. A motor first exhibits inductive behavior which is accompanied by high starting currents. This adversely affects protection components, such as fuses. Whereas when turning off, overvoltages are generated.
The adverse effects such as, voltage dips, high transients and overvoltages can be significantly reduced by applying a solid state relay.
Celduc's SGT and SMT relays have a built-in microcontroller and pre-programmed switching modes to efficiently turn 3-phase AC electric motors on and off, minimizing the adverse effects.
The SGT and SMT are equipped with particularly fast switching cycles to make this possible.
