Citizen has developed a new high-intensity LED with a Light Emiting Surface (LES) diameter of only 2.4mm. The CLU7L3 measures only 9.5×9.5mm, has a Vf of 3.1V and emits over 200lm at 3000K Ra90.
Applications are in small compact directional spotlights where the opening angle must be as small as possible. Traditionally, these spots are built with SMD LEDs where it is a challenge to get the square light image homogeneously round. With this COB LED there is always a perfectly round light image and also with CRI Ra97.
Bender and Wirth has a 27mm diameter connector available for the CLU73.
This makes optics design a lot easier.
