To further increase the safety of electrical energy storage systems, the dynamic discharge manager DDM 4.0, has been developed. Combined with a braking resistor from Koch, the DDM 4.0 ensures that DC circuits with large electrolytic capacitors or supercaps, discharge very quickly and, above all, safely to a voltage level as low as 10V. The DDM4.0 has standard 3.5kW of power, which is dissipated to an ohmic braking resistor. Due to the high IP65 protection rating, the 13kg safe braking resistor is placed outside the control cabinet and the resulting heat can be properly dissipated. Activated via a digital input, a switch or by a higher-level controller, the DDM 4.0 always gives top priority to the safety of the system and therefore of personnel. Maintenance or conversion work in large energy management systems is now not only safer, but also realizable in an unprecedented short waiting time.
