With 4D Powercoil, Block offers a new edge-wrapped winding technique that provides much better cooling properties than traditional winding methods. This effect is created by maximizing the conductive surface area and by creating air channels. Also, this winding technique has a positive effect on proximity losses. These are very welcome effects with ever increasing switching frequencies. In short; 4D Powercoil offers increased power density at lower cost. Block is building a new series of mains coils and sine filters and will be using this technique for other inductive components as well.
